Buster Posey is the National League Rookie of the Year

What a treat it was to get the news late this morning that Buster Posey was named rookie of the year in the National League.  In my estimation, he deserved the award — and his excellent post-season performance wasn’t even a factor in the voting.

Rookie of the Year is a coveted award, but it doesn’t always foretell an extended or outstanding career, as a few of the names on this list of NL winners confirm.  But most of the top rookies do have successful careers, and the signs all point to a fine one for Posey.

Catchers have it tougher than most other position players because of the pounding they take behind the plate day after day. From what I’ve seen, Posey has the talent, temperament and drive to be a champion for years to come.
