Clayton Kershaw wins his 20th for the Dodgers

Impressive as it was for Clayton Kershaw to win his 20th game of the season last night, what’s more remarkable is that he’s LA’s first 20-game winner in 21 years.

I was stunned to read that.

The Dodgers, one of the most consistent winners over the course of my lifetime, are the team of Koufax and Drysdale. Yet not since Ramon Martinez notched a 20-6 record in 1990 has anyone from the Dodgers reached 20 victories.

Kershaw has dominated the San Francisco this year, and it’s not as if he’s been squaring off against the Giants’ weakest link. Of his five victories against the defending world champions, Kershaw has defeated two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum four times.

Unbelievable.

If I were general manager of the Giants, I’d be checking the score books trying to find whoever it is who’s hit Kershaw the best and then do all in my power to sign him.

I don’t have a vote in the Cy Young Award, but if I did, I’d cast it for Kershaw without hesitation.

  1. Not sure anyone hits Kershaw at all. He gets my Cy Young vote, too.
